Amazon recently updated the requirements for five-point descriptions, which took effect on August 15. This update is quite strict and has significant implications. Many new sellers are accustomed to using emojis and symbols in their listings, but these are now prohibited.

To help everyone adjust, I’ve compiled Amazon’s latest five-point description guidelines, categorized into positive and negative aspects, to ensure your listings comply with the rules and avoid deletion. Additionally, I’ve listed prohibited special characters and common terms that you need to pay special attention to.

What to Do If Your Listing Is Deleted?

If, unfortunately, your listing gets deleted by the platform, Amazon usually provides a rectification period. During this time, you need to quickly modify the non-compliant parts. If you fail to make the necessary changes within the specified time, the platform will enable AI to generate a brand-new high-quality five-point description for you.

While the AI-generated five-point description will fully comply with platform rules, it may not necessarily be better than content carefully crafted by the seller. This is especially true for listings that have been operational for many years; modifications made by AI could significantly affect their weight and conversion rates. Therefore, I’ve also prepared a high-quality five-point description guide to help you enhance your listing quality and reduce the risk of violations.

Reminder: Don’t Ignore the "Product Information Update Alert"

If you receive an "Product Information Update Alert" email from Amazon, be sure to update your listing immediately. This will ensure that your product page complies with the latest regulations and avoid deletion by the platform. Don’t wait until there’s a problem to regret it; today’s reminder could be tomorrow’s lifeline!

Amazon 5-Point Description Writing Guidelines

(Effective from August 15, 2024)

Additions:

  • Each bullet point should start with a capital letter.
  • Each bullet should be in sentence format but avoid adding a period at the end.
  • If a bullet point contains several lists, use semicolons to separate words or phrases.
  • Each bullet point should have at least 10 characters and no more than 255 characters.
  • Each bullet point should start with a subheading if necessary, and the bullet point should continue without any breaks after the colon.
  • Add a space between numbers and units (e.g., 500 mL, not 500mL).
  • Except for specific cases such as model numbers or dimensions, consistently use digits for all numeric product variations.
  • The content should focus on product features and benefits rather than promotional language.
  • Highlight how the product meets customer needs, rather than simply listing facts.
  • Avoid comparisons with competitive products.
  • Avoid using claims related to consumer testing unless you can provide a source and date.
  • Avoid any claims of effectiveness unless there is proof printed on the packaging or similar.
  • Avoid repeating the same bullet points.
  • Include at least 3 bullet points.

Reductions:

  • Do not use emojis (e.g., ✅❌) or any symbols for decorative purposes.
  • Avoid special characters (e.g., ®, €, ™, †, ±, Ø, ℉, ¥, ©, ⌀, â).
  • Avoid vague claims like "eco-friendly," "good for the environment," "antibacterial," or "antimicrobial" without specific substantiation.
  • Do not use phrases like "full refund," "unconditional return," or other guarantee-related claims.
  • Avoid linking company information, website links, or any contact information.
  • Do not refer to other ASINs or use descriptions like "N/A" or "Not eligible."

High-Quality Bullet Point Writing Guidelines:

  • Start each bullet point with a capital letter.
  • Use sentence format; please avoid using a period at the end of the sentence.
  • Use semicolons to separate phrases within a sentence.
  • Each bullet point should contain at least 10 characters but no more than 255 characters.
  • Write numbers 1-9 in numeric form, except for names, model numbers, and measurements.
  • Add subheadings to bullet points, and use a colon ":" after the subheading, followed by detailed information.
  • Add a space between numbers and units (e.g., 60 ml).
  • Use clear and natural language to write bullet points. Avoid unnecessary keywords or jargon.
  • Highlight the product’s features and advantages, rather than focusing on brand-specific marketing activities.
  • Show how the product meets customer needs, not just listing facts.
  • Ensure consistent data across product variants.
  • Do not reference or cite other ASINs, and do not include other products.
  • Remove or minimize product name repetition, descriptions, or other redundant attributes. Add additional information or supportive details to help customers make smarter decisions.
